Moonlight White

Served at Iowa Governor's Inaugural Dinner, January, 1999. This is a crisp, clean, very drinkable medium-bodied wine that captures the varietal flavors of the Seyval Blanc grapes. If you enjoy Sauvignon Blancs, you will love Moonlight White.

This dry white wine shows pronounced fruit aromas and flavor character and a fairly high acidity. This is a crisp, clean, very drinkable medium-bodied wine that captures the varietal flavors of the Seyval Blanc grapes. Although dry, the fruit character of Moonlight white suggests it has some residual sweetness. If you enjoy premium Pinot Gris, you will love Moonlight White. Moonlight is Tabor Home Winerys top selling dry white wine of the four dry whites we have made. Moonlight is a great pairing with roasted pork tenderloin and with seasoned steamed vegetables.

Winemaker Notes:
Moonlight White is 100% Seyval Blanc from our vineyards and from the Lake Erie area. Seyval Blanc is a top-quality French hybrid used throughout the Eastern US. We produce 600 cases annually with a significant increase last year. Fermentation at 51 degrees F with a yeast that develops clean fruit aromas, a pronounced mouth feel and lasting flavors, and use of malo-lactic fermentation results in a distinguished wine. Many comment about Moonlight Whites similarity to Pinot Gris although I find more similarities with Sauvignon Blanc. Alcohol is 11.2% and titratable acidity is 10 g/l. We are encouraging Iowa growers to plant Seyval with the hope that we will be able to make a 100% Iowa-grown Seyval Blanc.

Food Pairings:
Pork tenderloin, cream of asparagus soup, hummus
